About Us

The Waterloo Economic Mobility Hub (WEMH), aka Milrace Mill Race Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, aims to serve as a hub of equity and access by implementing a holistic, community-driven approach to create an equitable and inclusive economic ecosystem that fosters sustainable wealth-building opportunities for all. Our objectives are listed below (this list is not all inclusive).

Bigger than a building-The WEMH is changing how we serve community. Nestled within the historic St. John's Campus, this transformative initiative revitalizes the Northside of Waterloo, bringing critical resources to the community while being strategically located less than two blocks from key services such as Operation Threshold, the Food Bank, and the Women's Center for Change. This hub shines as a beacon of opportunity, fostering collaboration and access to support systems that uplift and empower residents. Beyond housing the WEMH, the historic St. John’s Campus will feature 16 affordable housing units, a vibrant childcare center, and a dedicated literacy corner, establishing a dynamic space for holistic community growth and support.

Assist Black and minoritized communities to build generational wealth and decrease economic disparities through increased homeownership and business ownership.

Create Pathways to Economic Security

Reduce barriers to employment with legal support while providing access to good jobs, career growth opportunities, and career coaching to help youth, underemployed and underserved neighbors achieve economic stability.

Offer Comprehensive Wealth-Building Services

Provide financial education, counseling, and access to funding and capacity-building support to empower individuals and small businesses in building generational wealth.
